Patriots stun SACS on Enriquez serve run

21 Sep 2021 by Kevin Force

Gabi Enriquez reeled off seven straight serves, including six aces, to lead the Patriots to an improbable come-from-behind victory over a stunned San Antonio Christian squad on Monday.

FEAST (10-4-1, 1-0) had won the first set, 25-8, but trailed for all of the second set. Behind 23-17, the Patriots won a side out that brought Enriquez to the service line. She then delivered fastball after fastball as the Patriots climbed back into the set and forced the hosts to call a timeout.

Enriquez aced the Lions again after the timeout. The next serve was passed and returned, but an excellent combination play by Ellarie Ellebracht, Enriquez, and Chloe Hawkins produced the kill that allowed the Patriots to retain the serve for the remainder of the match.

The victory gives the A team, winners of three straight, a great start in ISAL competition. It will continue its quest for the league title tonight at the Geneva School of Boerne.

The Patriots’ B team dropped the opening match of the doubleheader, 20-25, 23-25, and will also join the fray in Boerne.

FEAST to play seven times tonight
Just a mere four days ago, the FEAST Patriots volleyball program broke a school record when six different teams were in action on the same day. Now, make it seven.

The Patriots’ middle school teams head to Boerne today to face Geneva in an early-season ISAL match. Geneva, replete with players, asked if FEAST could play a C game before the regularly scheduled B and A games, and the Patriots agreed, not knowing at the time that it would set up an historic seven-match day for the organization.

The seven games are spread out over three different cities west of San Antonio. The middle school is closest in Boerne. The Red and Blue teams drive out to Kerrville to face Our Lady of the Hills. And the JV and varsity squads return to Devine, this time for single matches with their Arabian counterparts.

All of the action will be carried live where signal is available @feastvolleyball on Instagram.

September to remember
The FEAST varsity squad is 10-0 this month and suits up for the last time in September tonight in Devine. The Patriots (28-2) seek to avenge a stinging loss from last season and cap the month with a perfect record.

The Patriots have not lost since dropping a two-set match at Geneva on Aug. 28.
