Four FEAST Patriot volleyball players have been selected as finalists for the 2021 Phoenix Milner Award, the award selection committee announced on Friday.
The finalists are Katie Braymer, Emory Davey, Anna Dawson, and Jaidah Hawkins. The award winner will be chosen by a vote of the program’s players and coaches, and will be announced at the season-ending banquet on Nov. 11.
Phoenix Milner was a FEAST volleyball and basketball player who tragically lost her life in a car accident on May 23, 2020. She was an incredibly special person who touched the lives of everybody in the program. She was a vocal leader, a tireless worker, a stranger to none and a friend to all. She set a classic example of what it means to be a Patriot.
The Milner Award was introduced to annually recognize one player, of any age, in the program who demonstrates the very highest example of leadership on the court, in the classroom and in the community.
The four finalists were chosen by the selection committee from a pool of 12 nominees. The other players nominated were Kayln Mae Bolton, Alexandria Brummett, Liberty Gould, Lindsey Gould, Odette Guenther, Julia Karako, Aubrey Ramos, and Lucy Wheeler.
At least one valid nomination form was completed for each nominee, making the nomination a special recognition in and of itself. From the valid nomination forms, a blind resume was assembled for evaluation by the selection committee. Both the number of nominations a player received and the quality of the nomination were the primary criteria in choosing finalists to advance.
Voting for this prestigious award is now open and must be done online through the link below. Only FEAST volleyball players and coaches from the current season are eligible to vote. Voting will remain open until 12 noon CST on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021.
